FTIR Analysis Confirms Plant-Derived Polymeric Structures in Leafy Leather

To better understand the chemical composition of our material, we conducted FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) analysis, a widely used technique for identifying functional groups and polymeric structures.

What FTIR Revealed

The FTIR spectrum of Leafy Leather showed distinct absorption bands corresponding to plant-derived polymeric structures, including:

  • Hydroxyl (–OH) groups associated with natural cellulose and lignocellulosic components
  • C–O and C–O–C stretching vibrations, typical of polysaccharides and plant-based binders
  • Carbonyl (C=O) peaks linked to bio-based polymer networks

These spectral signatures confirm the presence of renewable, plant-origin polymers within the material matrix, supporting our claim that Leafy Leather is fundamentally bio-based rather than petroleum-derived.
