Leafy Leather: Over 90% Bio-Based and USDA BioPreferred® Certification in Progress

At Leafy Leather, sustainability is more than a philosophy—it’s built into every sheet of our plant-based leather. Our internal calculations show that our material is over 90% bio-based, made from agro-waste and other renewable resources. This means the majority of our leather comes from natural, plant-derived sources, reducing reliance on petroleum-based synthetics and minimizing environmental impact.

Why Bio-Based Content Matters

Using bio-based materials supports a circular economy, decreases carbon footprint, and promotes renewable resource utilization. For brands and designers, this translates to products that are not only high-performing but also responsible.

USDA BioPreferred® Certification Underway

We are currently in the process of obtaining USDA BioPreferred® certification, which involves rigorous testing to verify the bio-based content of our material. Once completed, this certification will provide an official third-party validation of our claims, giving our partners and customers added confidence in the sustainability of Leafy Leather.

Committed to Transparency and Innovation

Achieving high bio-based content while maintaining durability, flexibility, and aesthetics was not easy. It required careful formulation, testing, and iteration, but the result is a plant-based leather that performs like traditional leather while being overwhelmingly derived from natural sources.

At Leafy Leather, our journey toward sustainable innovation continues. From high bio-based content to cruelty-free practices and renewable materials, we are redefining leather for a conscious future—and we’re just getting started.
